Refuge

Are you exhausted from the battle? Need some rest? Refuge? Protection? Shelter from a storm that is pelting you with anxiety and fear? Time to find “The Rock.”

Isaiah had never seen anything like it. Before him was the Lord seated in all majesty and might, surrounded by angels who had to cover their faces (they could not look directly at God’s glory) and feet (acknowledging their lowliness) as they hovered around the throne. Here’s what Isaiah saw.

“Loneliness can drive us to some very dark places.” That’s what a fellow believer shared in a recent email, and that’s what David shares in today’s psalm. David wrote these words while hiding in a cave from Saul as he was trying to kill him. When we feel alone, we can hide in some very dark places.

There is a direct correlation between where we live and how we live. The things that occupy our minds and drive our hearts will determine the state of our being. If we live in the land of fear, we will live with insecurity. If we live in the land of doubt, we will experience continual discouragement. Living in the land of brokenness will lead to a second-shelf Christian life and provide excuses for our sin. But when we hang out under the shelter of the Most High…our situation changes.

Reflect on your life. Think about the ways God has worked. Contemplate God’s protection and guidance. Sometimes he has protected you from others; sometimes he protected you from yourself. He is…and always will be…your refuge.

The eternal God is your refuge. He provides safety and security. He cares for you and carries you. He protects you with his powerful, eternal arms.

He alone fills our fearful and unsettled hearts with peace and joy.

God carries us close to his heart with his strong everlasting arms.

My Stronghold: When God is with me, I can stand my ground against the enemy. With God, I never have to retreat.
