My Rock, Fortress and Deliverer

Image
[expand title="Devotion Text"] Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. This verse is packed! Let’s break it down. My Rock: Here is the picture of a huge rock that a person could hide behind. God is our sure and secure hiding place. My Fortress: A fortress was a high place of shelter and defense where a person could run for protection. What a beautiful picture of the heavenly Father! My Deliverer: I am incapable of rescuing myself. God is the One who comes to find me and carries me out of harm’s way. My Refuge: God is a strong tower that I run into for safety. My Shield: As the soldier uses his shield to stop flaming arrows or the enemy’s weapon in hand-to-hand combat, so God protects me from the flaming darts of Satan. My Horn of Salvation: Animal horns were symbols of strength. It is God who will give me all I need to do whatever He calls me to do. My Stronghold: When God is with me, I can stand my ground against the enemy. With God, I never have to retreat. Father, I am helpless and hopeless on my own. I thank you for being my rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield, the horn of salvation, and stronghold! In Jesus’ name. Amen.   [/expand]
