The story of Revelation begins with letters to seven historical churches, and then God opens the door of heaven, where we see Him sitting on His throne. We know that every event in this description of the end times is orchestrated and controlled by God. And… in the end, we win!

Why study the book of Revelation? There are so many different interpretations, and the section we are in right now is full of devastation and destruction. And after all, I believe that believers will be pre-delivered from the tribulation by the Rapture. So, why is this study important?

To this point in our study, Jesus has opened the seven seals. The tribulation is underway. The seven seals opened the severe judgments of the trumpets. We have considered the first six trumpets, and now there is a pause before the seventh. Today, we will consider “another mighty angel” and a little scroll. From today’s passage, I will draw three general principles.

When we read Revelation 8, we know that a great tribulation has already begun. The first three and a half years are a time of peace, during which the Antichrist, portrayed as a rider on a white horse, will seem to bring heaven to earth. There will be treaties and peace agreements, fostering a period of cooperation and goodwill. But then... the Antichrist will reveal his true nature. War, famine, and unprecedented destruction will engulf the earth. 

The study of Revelation is rich and enlightening. God wants us to be ready for his Son’s return, and as his followers, we know that, in the end, we will win; still, we must remain engaged in the spiritual battles we face every day. As we examine future events, let’s remember our present responsibility of ongoing obedience. Having a certain hope for the future should strengthen our spiritual confidence so we continue to honor the God we will worship and serve forever.
