DAILY DEVO OVERVIEW: REVELATION 7:1—9:21

Revelation 7:1-8: Sealed and Sent

  • God pauses judgment to show his mercy (Rev. 7:1-3).

  • God seals 144,000 Jewish believers for protection and his divine purpose (Rev. 7:3-4).

  • God fulfills his promise to use Israel to be his witnesses (Rev. 7:4-8).

Revelation 7:9-17: Future Hope. Present Confidence.

  • John sees a “great multitude that no one could number” from every tribe, nation, and language—standing confidently before God because they have been washed white in the blood of the Lamb (Rev. 7:9-10).

  • One elder revealed that a great multitude endured the great tribulation and remained faithful even to death (Rev. 7:11-14).

  • In eternity, God gives his people perfect presence, protection, provision, and compassion—no hunger, no thirst, no more tears (Rev. 9:15-17).

Revelation 8:1-5: Prayers of the Saints

  • After the seventh seal was opened, there was silence in heaven before the events that are to take place. Before judgment intensifies on earth, heaven stands in silence (Rev. 8:1).

  • Before God unleashes further judgment, he highlights the value of his people’s prayers (Rev. 8:2-4).

  • God advances his purposes, initiating thunder, lightning, and an earthquake (Rev. 8:5).

Revelation 8:6-13:  The Sound of Judgment

  • The First Trumpet: Hail and Fire. A third of the earth, trees, and all the grass are burned (Rev. 8:7).

  • The Second Trumpet: Mountain into the Sea. A third of the sea life dies and a third of the ships are destroyed (Rev. 8:8-9).

  • The Third Trumpet: Inland Waters. A star called “Wormwood” falls into freshwater rivers and springs, contaminating the inland water supply and causing death to many (Rev. 8:10-11).

  • The Fourth Trumpet: Darkness. A third of the sun, moon, and stars are darkened, throwing nature out of rhythm (Rev. 8:12).

  • A Final Warning: An eagle declares three “woes” of warning (Rev. 8:13).

  • Jesus foretold the tribulation in the Gospels (see Mark 13:19-23).

Revelation 9:1-21: Trumpets of Warning

  • The Fifth Trumpet: Satanic Torture. Demonic forces are released to torment people for five months. (Revelation 9:1–12).

  • The Sixth Trumpet: Devastating War. A massive army kills a third of humanity. Along with Revelation 6:8, half of the world’s population is now wiped out (Revelation 9:13–19).

  • Even amidst these apocalyptic supernatural events, people refuse to turn to God (Rev. 9:20-21).
