Your bag is empty.
The Light

John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.”
Did you read, hear, or watch the news this morning? Another demonstration that turned violent. Another shortage. Another shooting. Another act of war. Liberals and conservatives talking past one another. And deaths…hundreds of death. The world is in darkness. Evil, sin, and prejudice abound. The world is filled with people walking in darkness (Isaiah 9:2).
But we don’t have to learn of darkness from the news. Our hearts are “deceitful above all things and desperately sick” (Jeremiah 17:9). We are filled with the dark haze of emptiness, bitterness, anger, disillusionment, and despair. Until…we experience the Light.
Jesus changes everything. The person who follows Jesus “will not walk in darkness.” J. C. Ryle says, “The spiritual light that Christ gives is independent of time or place, is not affected by sickness or death, burns on forever and cannot be quenched…guiding [us] in [our] journey through life….” Jesus really does change everything.
Lord Jesus, thank you for being the Light of the world. Thank you for the promise that those who follow you will not walk in darkness. In your name. Amen.
