Great and Awesome

  Daniel 9:4 I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments…” In today’s passage there are three important things we learn about God. Let’s check them out.

• He is a personal God. God is not to be held at arm’s length. He is a God who desires a relationship with us and provides the way to himself through Jesus. Daniel uses a personal pronoun to describe his relationship with God. Can you, like Daniel, pray to “the Lord my God?”
• He is unique. There is no God like our God. He is unique in his greatness. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. He inspires the wonder, admiration…the amazement of those who worship him.
• He always keeps his covenant of love. God will never go back on his promises. He will never renegotiate his commitment to love us through eternity. His love is not based on our performance. His commitment to us is based on his grace and mercy. Our relationship with God is all on him.

How do you respond to a God like our God? Only one way. Worship him with your entire life! Talking to God Father, you are the all-powerful God! And yet I can speak with you right now. I can talk with you anytime. Thank you for sending Jesus to enable me to have a relationship with you. Thank you for the certain promise that you will never remove your love from me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
