Advent: Preparing for Jesus - The Virgin Birth

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. The first and foremost foundational truth of Christianity is the Virgin Birth. Our faith stands on the promise and the truth that Mary was with child “through the Holy Spirit.” Jesus was fully God and fully man. Indeed, the Virgin Birth defines history.
Father, thank You for the promise and the fulfillment of the virgin birth that allows Jesus, fully God and fully man, to pay the penalty for my sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen. For parents: don’t shy away from explaining the importance of this truth to your children when their age is appropriate. It is critical to our faith. You probably have some dinner-table Christmas stories like the one I shared today. We would love to hear about the questions your children ask. Share them with us at prayer@ronmoore.org. [/expand]
