Thank you so much for addressing this important issue. I’m on the leadership team for Lebo Unplugged (an umbrella group of PA Unplugged) and the more I learn about the dangers online, the more it makes me never want to buy my daughter a phone. She’ll be in 7th grade next year and is one of the few kids at school that doesn’t have one. The peer pressure is real.
The danger is also on any app or game that has an online chat feature. I spoke at our school board meeting recently because my daughter’s friend was messaged on a game, on a school device in school, by a man from Canada! She’s 11! The game was called Human or Not. There was another example of an app that was assigned in class called Geoguessr and it has a chat feature where the kids could chat with anyone in the world! Scary stuff. I agree it’s 100% the responsibility of the parents, but I also believe our schools need to do better with blocking such sites and features, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. Again, thanks for all you do & bringing light to this important issue.
