True Vine

John 15:8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. Just before we were married, I traveled with Lori’s family to visit relatives in Kansas. On the way, we stopped to pick peaches. It was hot, and the fuzz on peaches irritated my skin. But no matter, I had to impress my soon-to-be father-in-law. My strategy during that miserable morning was to find trees with branches loaded with fruit. I knew these branches were connected to a source providing healthy nutrients. Although I was hot, sweaty, and itchy, I kept climbing trees and filling up baskets…and pretending to enjoy it. Finally, we were finished. But even lunch at Mr. Steak didn’t do much to assuage my misery. Just as a fruit-loaded branch demonstrates a connection to a healthy source, so a spiritual fruit-loaded believer demonstrates a connection to the Source. Fruit in our lives will demonstrate that we are connected to True Vine, and his Father gets all the glory. Lord Jesus, thank you for connecting us to yourself. Thank you for producing fruit in us. Thank you for bringing glory to the eternal God through branches like us. In your name, I pray. Amen.
