Waiting

Still reeling from his brothers’ betrayal and alone in a foreign land, God was blessing Joseph’s endeavors while he served in Potiphar’s house. Then, the whole ordeal with Potiphar’s wife took place. She accused him of sexual assault, so Joseph was sent to prison. Think of it—Joseph was in jail because of his obedience to God!

The fear of uncertainty causes us to run . . . fast. We run to where we think will bring comfort. We run to where the pain can be dulled, at least for a while. These are unhealthy places that deliver short-lived satisfaction and false hope.

Have you ever grown tired of waiting on God? That’s what happened to Abraham’s wife, Sarah. She decided to take matters into her own hands. Since she had not been able to have children, she told Abraham to sleep with her maidservant Hagar, which he did. Hagar became pregnant, and Sarah became jealous. Hagar finally ran away to escape the mistreatment. The angel of the Lord found her near a spring in the desert.

I know it’s easy to say—Do not be anxious about anything…. You know the verse well. Some of you memorized it as a child. You know the verse is true. You have experienced God’s peace. But today is different.

Okay, I admit it…I hate to wait. I hate to wait in the car for family members (I dare not mention names) who will be out in “just a minute.” I hate to wait in the mall for family members (I dare not mention names) who say, “It will take just a second” to go into a certain store and check on a certain item. I hate waiting for everyone to show up so a meeting can start…and sometimes I hate waiting until the meeting is over. It’s not that I don’t like people or family members…on the contrary…it’s just that I hate to wait. And…I admit it…I hate waiting on God.

Think about it! Disease that wracks the body—healed! Broken hearts from broken relationships—over! Wayward children—home! Stricken with grief—comforted! Addictions—overcome! Years of separation—united! Disappointment—elation!

Follow Jesus, the Bright Morning Star. He’s the One you’ve been waiting for, longing for. He’s the One, the only One, who can give you what you have always been looking for.

The Seed was the Messiah the Jewish people had been waiting for! He is the One you have been waiting for as well!

Jesus is the One you’ve been waiting for. Have you asked him to be your King and rule on the throne of your heart?
