Temple

Names of God: The Name
Image

King David was living in a palace. God’s “dwelling place” was a tent. There was something that was not quite right with that picture. David decided to build a great temple for God, but God said, “No.” He directed David to give the building assignment to his son, Solomon. Today’s passage takes place on the day that Solomon dedicated this great temple.

Cornerstone
Image

He is the cornerstone joining the walls and making the building strong. All peoples come together in Christ and grow “into a holy temple in the Lord.”

Helper
Image

Because the Helper lives in us, we don’t have to go to a “holy place” to worship God; we are the “holy place,” the temple where the eternal God resides.

Abandoning My Agenda

Jesus lived with zeal and passion. He entered the temple area and “drove out” all who had turned worship into a money-making scam.

The Lord Is There

When a person trusts in Christ alone as the only way to have a relationship with the living God, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within. God, through his Spirit, lives in us.

The Name

We are the living, breathing temple of God. By the Spirit’s empowerment, our job is to represent Hashem—The Name—well.

Unfinished Work

When God wants you to do great things for Him, He is not satisfied with a good start but no follow-through. Get up and get to work. Finish the task God has called you to!

The Many Gates
Image

We must also guard the gate of our eyes . . . what we watch and look at. The gate of our mind . . . the things we think about. The gate of our emotions . . . the things we desire. The gate of our will . . . the mission of our lives.
