Struggle

Have you ever been tempted? Struggling with temptation? In our passage today, Paul gives us important instructions in this area.

When I was growing up, there was a plaque hanging on a wall in our house that read, “Don’t worry. It may never happen.” I passed that saying many times each day, and those words became branded on my brain. So, of course, I never worry. (I wish!)

Marriages don’t explode. There is seldom one event that causes a husband and wife to call it quits. Rather the demise of a marriage is more like a slow leak. If the leak is not tended to, over time, the air escapes, and the relationship goes flat.

Therein lays the battle—the struggle of knowing what I am supposed to do and not wanting to do it.

I need to pray that God helps me live more like a citizen of heaven than a citizen of earth. 

Only God can make us holy. Maybe that has been one of your struggles. You have been trying to make yourself good enough for God. Good luck with that. But here’s the good news - Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.
