Sacrifice

Advent: Preparing for Jesus - The Incarnation
Image

Jesus was born to unmarried parents and carried that stigma with Him for the rest of His life. Jesus was stripped of all royal privileges, all the way to the cross. Nate Saint, who gave his life for Christ as a missionary, said it this way: “If we could only grasp the significance of the Incarnation, the word sacrifice would disappear from our vocabulary.”

Simon of Cyrene

Exhausted by the beatings and floggings of the day, Jesus collapsed under the load. A man from Cyrene was forced to carry the cross for Jesus. Little did Simon of Cyrene know that the cross was actually for his sins…and yours and mine. Simon carried the cross to Golgotha, then laid it down for the Savior to become our sacrifice.

God Humiliated

God was humiliated. With the angels poised at the edge of heaven to charge, the Word remained silent. He prepared to be delivered as the perfect sacrifice for sin. He did it all for us.

More Than a Feeling

Love doesn’t stop with this supreme act of Jesus. Those He died for are to love each other as He has loved us. We are to lay down our lives for another person if need be. Jesus’ great sacrifice calls for us to demonstrate great love. Love is costly. Long before a sacrificial death, love must be shown with a sacrificial life.
