Responsibility
Requesting a Favor
James and John sent their mother to request a favor from Jesus. She asked that when he established his kingdom, her two sons be given a special place of power and position. Once the other disciples learned of this query, they were “indignant.” Peter must have been particularly irritated. Along with James and John, he made up Jesus’ inner circle. But as always, Jesus turned the situation into an important teaching moment.
Speaking and Serving
The apostle Peter was all about focus and clarity. The gospel of Mark, believed by most theologians to be Peter’s words recorded by Mark, is straightforward, hard-hitting, and action-packed. In our passage today, Peter takes all the potential spiritual gifts (see Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4) and lists them in two broad categories—speaking and serving. 1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
Family Strong
Teaching sexuality is, first and foremost, a family’s responsibility. It cannot be delegated or abdicated. It is the responsibility of the two people who brought the child into the world by the act of sex to teach about sex through appropriate words, faithfulness, and commitment to marriage.
Family Strong
Parents, we must teach our children the truths of Scripture, and we must confirm the truths of Scripture by our actions. The spiritual education and development of our children is on us … a weighty responsibility that cannot be delegated.
Family Strong
The responsibility of parenting cannot be delegated. The youth group, private school, or Christian school cannot impart the deep truths of the faith to your children. Sure, each plays a part, but parenting is for parents. There are things your children will not hear unless they hear them from you.
Eternal Truth into Tender Hearts
God has given you the responsibility and privilege to implant eternal truth in tender hearts.
Study. Do. Teach.
Following Ezra’s life purpose gives us a four-part powerful prayer.
God Listens
Sovereignty does not stop our prayers; rather, it is the reason we pray.
