Promise
Using What We Know
God tells his people that because of who he is and what he has done, they can “walk with their heads held high.” And so can we!
Advent: Preparing for Jesus - God With Us
The Promise was not a politician who came to change the laws of the land. The Promise was not a philosopher who came to teach morality. The Promise did not come as a military leader ready to take troops into battle. The Promise did not appear as a religious leader paving a way for man to work his way to God. The Promise “became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
Advent: Preparing for Jesus - Teaching God’s Word
Mary concludes her prayer with the reminder that God had not forgotten His people, Israel. His promise to the nation’s ancestors was about to be fulfilled. The Messiah was on His way!
Preparing Yourself
God has the same promise for you. He is working in your heart to do great things for Him. Every believer lives with the power of the Holy Spirit. You have everything you need to do what God has called you to do.
The Ascension Command
So, you have a couple of choices. You can sit, soak, and sour, or you can put passion into action and follow the command of Jesus. You know what you need to do…what you must do. What are you waiting for?
Disciple-Making
Wherever we go, we are never alone. Jesus is always with us, even to the end. That great promise is the exclamation point on the Great Commission.
Believing Without Seeing
Jesus blesses the faithful. In the words of the writer to the Hebrews, Jesus commends those who are sure of what they hope for and certain of what they don’t see. Some of these faithful were men and women who lived before Jesus. People like Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Rahab. They lived by faith even though the Gift had not been unwrapped.
Holding On for Joy
You may be experiencing a difficult time; a time of pain and grief. This same promise Jesus gave to His disciples He repeats to you. Hang on! Don’t give up! Trust Him! Cling to Him! Jesus replaces anguish with great joy!
