Standing Firm in Unshakable Faith: Accusing God
It is one thing to ask, “Why?” when we go through the inevitable challenges of life. I would argue that the “Why?” question is a natural and normal response from a broken heart. We believe that some amount of explanation would help the pain subside, bring understanding to our exhausted reasoning, and allow us to gain a measure of joy in our circumstances. If we could see how our pain fits into God’s big picture, that would certainly go a long way in the healing process, wouldn’t it? But when we bring accusations against God, we are on a dangerous detour.
BATTLE READY: THE BATTLEFIELD
What causes us to sin? Is it our environment? Does it have to do with our family of origin? Is it in our genes? Let’s consider these questions as we look at our passage today.
Promises: Limitless Love
Yesterday we considered God’s amazing love. Let’s continue to do that today. Here are some encouraging verses from Psalm 103.
Promises: Meteoric Love
When our first daughter, Brittany, was born, I was surprised to feel a new channel of love open in my soul. I thought I had expended all my love on my wife, Lori. I didn’t know I had the capacity to love another person that much. And when we learned another baby was on the way, I wondered how I could love a second child as much as Brittany. But when our son arrived, I learned that my love for him didn’t “borrow” from my love for Brittany. A new reservoir of love was released for Garrison…and then for Lara….and then for Mackenzie…and now for our grandchildren.
ENGAGE: Your Will Not Mine
Some even teach that praying with real faith is telling God what you want, when you want it, and that you will not take no for an answer. So…is praying, “Your will be done,” a cop-out? Let’s learn from Jesus.
Judge of the Earth
He sent his Son to the cross to pay the penalty of our sins. When we trust in Jesus, the Judge of the earth pronounces us, “Not guilty!”
