King

The Israelites believed that Yahweh was their king-–in Hebrew, Melek. He was the ultimate authority over Israel and every nation on earth. He reigned in power and majesty. They believed the temple in Jerusalem was the earthly symbol of God’s heavenly throne. God was their Melek; they were his servants.

There was no shortage of “Messiahs” in the days of Jesus. In Acts 5, a prominent Jewish leader named Gamaliel noted two Jewish leaders whose large followings had “scattered” after the self-proclaimed “Messiahs” were killed.

Abundant life doesn’t start in heaven; it starts today! You are a child of the King, wearing his royal robes of righteousness, so live like a child of the King! 

No longer contained in the body of a baby; no longer confined to a cross; on that day, Jesus will come with the “fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.”

Jesus, as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, is seen as one who battles on behalf of his people. He defeated the last enemy, death itself!

God is not only our King; he alone is supreme, the “blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Jesus is the Prophet. We are called to read his Word, listen to what he says, and do what he tells us to do.

Jesus came to deliver people from their sins. He is the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One.
