Journey
Fresh Start: Transformed
We can get settled in this life of ours. We describe our activities with words of permanence. We get married and “settle down.” We become “established” in our careers. We “build” a house. We acquire stuff—some cool stuff—that we appreciate and enjoy…sometimes a little too much.
Fresh Start: Meeting God
Fresh starts come with each sunrise. They are not carried over from the day before. Remember the manna process in the Old Testament. The Israelites could only collect a day’s worth; the next day, they went back for more. That’s how it is with fresh starts. And our “manna” is God’s Word.
What to Leave Behind?
On my last trip overseas, I was determined to get everything in one midsized suitcase. No way was I going to lug two suitcases and my backpack around airports, hotels, and global workers’ homes. So, I had to make some decisions. After my first packing attempt, I needed a do-over. There were items I had to leave behind. After my second attempt, I needed a do-over-over. Finally, the bag shut without looking like the zipper was going to break apart! I was good to go. Peter tells us there are certain behaviors that we need to leave behind.
Strangers
Today we start a new series of devotionals called Living Hope. Our hope is secured in the living God, who always keeps his promises. While we will use many passages in Scripture, 1 Peter will be our base. So, let’s start with the first two verses of this letter.
ENGAGE: From Your Heart
Every believer needs a time of refreshment. The journey is long with many uphill climbs. Like the psalmist says, our soul thirsts for God “as in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1). There are days when we need renewal.
Road Rules: Here Comes the Sun
With each step of faith, the way that was once confusing becomes clear; the path that was once dark is bright. The journey to heaven is a journey of faith…one step at a time.
Light of the World
Light explains. The way is made certain. The path is revealed. Decisions can be made regarding direction.
God’s Plan
Sometimes we have problems with God’s plan. We misunderstand what he is up to. We fear the danger. But Jesus’ plan is always bigger than ours.
