Jealous

Is being jealous ever a good thing? Doesn’t jealousy lead to envy? Isn’t it wrong to want what others have? When someone demonstrates jealousy in a relationship, don’t we see it as a bad thing? So why does God say that he is a jealous God?

Have you ever grown tired of waiting on God? That’s what happened to Abraham’s wife, Sarah. She decided to take matters into her own hands. Since she had not been able to have children, she told Abraham to sleep with her maidservant Hagar, which he did. Hagar became pregnant, and Sarah became jealous. Hagar finally ran away to escape the mistreatment. The angel of the Lord found her near a spring in the desert.

The writer of Hebrews describes God as a “consuming fire.” What does he mean by that?

Here’s the point of today’s proverb: Don’t be jealous; be zealous! Why envy the person who finds ultimate enjoyment in temporal stuff? Why envy the person whose eternal future will be “cut off”?

It is time to get rid of any other gods in your life. The Lord God is a jealous God. He is El Kanna.

He is God and there is no other. Our search for other gods leads us to emptiness.
