Helper

Before Jesus died on the cross, he promised his disciples that he would not leave them alone. He would send them “another Helper.” Jesus had to go away, but this new Helper would be with them forever.

The disciples had just received very disturbing news. Jesus was going away, and where he was going, they could not come, at least for the time being.

“I don’t measure up.” “I am not sure I have what it takes.” “I’m physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted.” “I’m in over my head.” “What if I fail?” “What will people think of me?” Do you ever have these thoughts and questions? An inner gnawing that you are just not enough? You are not alone. Let me introduce you to a man named Moses.

Thanks for joining us for Promises in the Psalms—a devo series right from the Old Testament book of worship. We have learned that God is our helper and healer. He is always present with us and meets us wherever we are. He is right there when our hearts are broken. He tends to our deepest wounds. He is our great God! That’s why we praise him through our joy and our tears.

Did you know that the first human being God created was incomplete? Adam was created with something missing. And, according to God, his incompleteness was not good.

Because the Helper lives in us, we don’t have to go to a “holy place” to worship God; we are the “holy place,” the temple where the eternal God resides.
