Genesis
The Gift of Marriage and Family
God’s story in God’s people is seldom told without some type of interaction between a husband and wife and their kids. I think you would agree that as God continues to write his story in us, marriage and family is the primary context in which our story is developed.
The Gift of Responsibility
Your work matters to God. You’re not just getting a paycheck. You’re not just punching a clock. It’s not about making a lot of money. God created work as a sacred calling. Your vocation places you on mission to do ministry. Every day you are investing in eternity.
Imago Deo
In one of David’s psalms, he reflects on the greatness of God and the smallness of humanity. We can only imagine it was a dark night when David was gazing into the heavens and wrote these words
Three in One
We’ll consider the birth of the Church and the Spirit’s work in greater detail when we examine the book of Acts later in our study, but for now consider this: The disciples, along with that small group including Jesus’ mother and brothers, were the first to experience God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in their fullness. They worshiped Yahweh Elohim, they walked with Jesus, and now, they were empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The LORD God
When you read Elohim in the Bible, translated as the English word “God,” take your time to consider everything the name signifies. Think absolute power. Think complete control. Think supremacy and sovereignty. Think splendor and glory. In heaven, there will be no need for the sun because “the glory of God will give it light” (Rev. 21:23).
Genesis: God's Story in You
In our study of Genesis, we are seeing that two threads weave throughout the book: The powerful Person of God and his personal work in the lives of people. The Creator is writing his story in our lives. That should never cease to amaze us and that should excite us that we are deeply involved in this amazing story!
Genesis: God's Story in You
There are two threads of profound truth that run through the book of Genesis. The first thread describes the powerful Person of God. The second thread reveals how this all-powerful God personally works in the details of our lives. A simple outline of Genesis shows these two threads presented in three sections of the book.
Genesis: God's Story in You
God is writing his story in you. He is an amazing God, and he is writing an amazing story. Whatever you are going through today is preparing you for tomorrow. He never wastes our experiences and circumstances.
BATTLE READY: THE BATTLEFIELD
When there is an opening in our battle gear, the enemy aims for that vulnerable spot. After Eve’s weak response to Satan’s question, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1), he went from a seemingly innocent question to an attack on God’s integrity.
