Disciples
Eternal Life
The early followers of Jesus misunderstood. They wanted a better temporal life. Jesus came to deliver eternal life. Subsequently, many of the disciples stopped following Jesus.
ENGAGE: Passionate Conversations
Big decisions call for big times of conversation with God. Many disciples were following Jesus, but he needed to reduce the number. He desired to pour into those who would pour into others and pour themselves out with lives of sacrifice. He chose twelve to teach, train, and mentor.
The Truth
To say that Jesus is the truth is to say that there is no speck of doubt or hint of question in who he is, what he does, and what he says. Jesus is God!
Friend of Sinners
Jesus is a friend of sinners. He laid down his life for us on the cross. When you trust in Jesus as the One who paid for your sin on the cross, you become his friend…forever.
The Great Commission
Wherever we go, we are never alone. Jesus is always with us . . . even to the end. That great promise is the exclamation to the Great Commission.
Ending and Beginning
Jesus didn’t stay an infant for long. It was time for Mary and Joseph to prepare Jesus to become a “son of commandment” (bar mitzvah). At that age young boys were obligated to observe the religious practices personally. So Jesus made the trip for Passover. Two decades later he would make the trip again, one last time, giving his life on the cross.
Advent: Preparing for Jesus - Proof
Many times when God calls us to do great things, He gives us proof that He is at work. In the Old Testament, He proved Himself to Moses, Joshua, and Gideon. In the New Testament, He proved Himself to the disciples and Paul on the road to Damascus.
