Decisions
Light in the Darkness: Life in the Son
To introduce this devotional, I wanted to show all the different decisions that make life complex. There are multiple choices for everything from washers and dryers to tires for your car. Since you may not be in the market for a washer or dryer, and your tires are just fine, I decided to see how many brands of jeans there are. I found a site that provided the complete list of jean brands listed in alphabetical order. I stopped counting at one hundred brands. I was only at “C”! I didn’t have it in me to count jean brands starting with “D” all the way to “Z.”
Confronting My Fear - Uncertainty
Fear has the power to debilitate us, cause us to make unhealthy decisions, erupt within us a volcano of hurtful words, and lead us down a dark path. Fear can come quickly and leave just as expeditiously. Or it can settle in our hearts and threaten to never leave. Fear is often brought on by uncertainty in our lives. It was the fear of uncertainty that changed the course of George’s life.
ENGAGE: Passionate Conversations
Talking to God all night. That’s what Jesus did the night before he chose his disciples. The selections were too important. The Son desired clarity from the Father. Luke says it this way:
ENGAGE: Passionate Conversations
Big decisions call for big times of conversation with God. Many disciples were following Jesus, but he needed to reduce the number. He desired to pour into those who would pour into others and pour themselves out with lives of sacrifice. He chose twelve to teach, train, and mentor.
Ecclesiastes: Time - Youth
Solomon experienced the energy and vigor of youth and wanted others to do the same. His counsel for young men was to enjoy life and pursue dreams and desires. But Solomon warns that enjoying life is not without boundaries and accountability. Everything a person does will one day be evaluated by the Judge (see also Eccl. 12:14).
Road Rules: Wisdom
Wisdom does not guarantee a problem-free life or make us immune to the fallout of bad decisions. But wisdom will lead us to a life God blesses. And God will bring peace to our paths—a peace that surpasses human understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Light of the World
Light explains. The way is made certain. The path is revealed. Decisions can be made regarding direction.
