Do you ever wonder why the person who cuts corners gets the promotion? Why one with no scruples lands the deal? Why do the promiscuous ones get the engagement ring? Why do the wicked ones prosper? The psalmist wondered the same thing.

A name is more than a combination of letters. A name represents character and personality. When we hear a name, we think of a person, and our emotions are stirred. So it is with God.

Let’s take a few days to consider Psalm 51, David’s prayer for forgiveness after his sin with Bathsheba. In this prayer, we find seven important steps to true repentance. Today we’ll cover the first three.

Let me remind you that God’s character and attributes never change. His name is still El Shaddai. He is still all-powerful and all-sufficient.

He demonstrates his character through his work.

The hard truth is that sin, even forgiven sin, has consequences.

David knows that God will always do what is right.

Today, thank God for his compassion - his affection that leads to action. Thank God for his grace - acceptance without condition. Thank God for his patience - his slowness to become angry. Thank God for his love - the love that sent Jesus to the cross to pay the penalty for your sin. Thank God for his faithfulness - He will always keep his promises. Thank God that through his Holy Spirit, he is standing with you right now.
