Light in the Darkness: The Word Became Flesh
Tiny hands waving about uncontrollably. A shrill cry piercing the damp air of a borrowed cave. A mother’s peaceful smile. A mysterious smile on the face of her husband, who helped deliver a miracle. And the Word became flesh: God confined to an infant.
Believe. Saved.
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Isn’t this relationship with God something to be earned? Don’t I need to spend time demonstrating my religious worth—confirmation, first communion, baptism, listening to sermons, or to speed up the process—volunteering with the youth group? Don’t I have to do something, be something, or achieve some spiritual…something? This sounds too easy. Just say, “Jesus is Lord,” and that’s it? Come on!
But, Lord
Jesus does amazing things. Trust him, and he will turn things that stinketh into things that shine for his glory.
The Lord is Our Righteousness
Because of our trust in Jesus, God declares us, “Not guilty!” and gives us the right standing that Jesus has before the Father. Indeed, the Lord is our righteousness.
Advent: Preparing for Jesus - Proof for Believing
Would you expect anything less when God took on flesh and lived among us?
A Woven Masterpiece
Just as God is at work in the history of the world, so he is at work in the history of your world. That may be hard for you to believe right now. Your life may seem to be on hold or in chaos. But you can be sure that God is using every experience to weave a magnificent masterpiece with your name stitched at the top.
Advent: Preparing for Jesus - Surrender
Many people believe that they can draw up the terms of their relationship with Jesus. But that’s not how it works. Everyone who truly wants to follow hard after Jesus must come to a place of surrender.
