Storms: Correction and Perfection

Matthew 14:25-27
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
After the feeding of the five thousand, the crowd wanted to force Jesus to be their king, and the disciples were siding with the crowd. So Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and sail to the other side of the lake, while He went by Himself to pray. The disciples started their journey and ended up stranded in the middle of the lake in the midst of a storm.
Does Jesus ever send us into a storm? Sometimes. There are storms of correction. He needs to get our attention and get us back on the right track. Ever heard of Jonah? There are also storms of perfection. Places that stretch us and cause us to grow. Challenges that get our eyes back on Jesus.
Jesus never leaves us alone in the storm. He comes to us and shows us His power. He speaks confidence into our shaken hearts. “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” With Jesus we have everything we need, even in the midst of a storm.
Father, I am in a storm. The circumstance is rocking my life like waves pound a boat. I am afraid. Remind me that You are with me. Give me courage. Take away my fear. Give me Your peace in the midst of my storm. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
