Road Rules: Telling the Truth

A few weeks ago, Lori took a trip to see our granddaughter. I drove her to the airport, unloaded her bag from the car, and gave her a hug and a big kiss on the lips before she headed to her flight. I was not embarrassed in the least. My kiss on the lips was delivered from my heart. The Proverbs say that an honest answer is delivered from the heart just like a kiss on the lips.
Proverbs 24:26 (NIV) An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.
An honest answer is sweet. It’s refreshing to hear someone care enough to speak the truth. An honest answer is strong. It’s not a wishy-washy offering; it means something. An honest answer is clear. It doesn’t beat around the bush. An honest answer stays with you. An honest answer is…well, just like a kiss on the lips. Honesty is not just the best policy…as the old saying goes. Telling the truth comes from the heart through the lips of a person who desires to honor God. Truth-telling is something we can show and tell our children every day. Remind your kids that God loves honesty—it’s like a kiss on the lips. Father, make us strong and courageous enough to express honest answers. And make us strong and courageous enough to hear them from others and take them to heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
