Road Rules: Keeping Your Promises

More promises are made than are kept. Have you ever said or heard assurances like—

Things are really busy right now. I promise that I’ll slow down, and we’ll spend some time together. 

I don’t have time tonight, but I promise to be at your game this weekend.

Sorry for the delay. I promise to get the paperwork to you by Friday. 

For better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and health, till death do us part….

More promises are made than are kept. That’s what today’s proverb says. 

Proverbs 20:6 Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find?

Faithful men and women, faithful husbands and wives, faithful moms and dads are faithful in keeping their word. They don’t renegotiate what they said they would do when circumstances change. They know that their word is their bond, and they will do everything in their power to make good on what they promised.  Whether in marriage or parenting, whether in the workplace or in relationships with friends, the believer is committed to a higher standard. People of integrity always keep their word. 

Father, by your strength, may we be true promise keepers in every area of our lives.

For Christ’s sake.
