Reflective Applicational Questions: John 3:16-6:21

  1. Take time to evaluate where you may be intentionally or unintentionally keeping the spotlight on yourself instead of pointing others to Jesus.

  2. What “empty wells” have you been turning to hoping they satisfy the deepest need of your heart? Talk to Jesus about the living water that only he abundantly provides.

  3. What “mat” is keeping you spiritually pinned to the ground: Excuses? Sin? Failure? Discouragement? What will you do to get up off the mat?

  4. Are you more interested in learning Scripture or knowing the Savior?

  5. How can you shift your focus from the size of the storm to the presence of the Savior? In what situation of your life do you need to hear Jesus say, “Take heart. It is I. Do not be afraid”?

One of my all-time favorite songs is Sometimes He Calms the Storm by Scott Krippayne. I still remember where I was the first time I heard it. I encourage you to listen. Here is a link. Disclaimer: This is on YouTube, so I don’t know what advertisement might precede it.

Here are the lyrics:
All who sail the sea of faith
Find out before too long
How quickly blue skies can grow dark
And gentle winds grow strong
And suddenly fear is like white water
Pounding on the soul
But still we sail on knowing
That our Lord is in control

Sometimes He calms the storm
With a whispered peace be still
And He can settle any sea
But it doesn't mean He will
Sometimes He holds us close
And lets the wind and waves go wild
Sometimes He calms the storm
And other times He calms His child

He has a reason for each trial
That we pass through in life
And though we're shaken
We cannot be pulled apart from Christ
No matter how the driving rain beats down
On those who hold to faith
A heart of trust will always
Be a quiet peaceful place
