Thursday, January 15—Genesis 3:14-15
Friday, January 16—Genesis 4

This past week, we began in the New Testament and worked our way back to Genesis—the key that unlocks the unity of Scripture. We explored how sin entered the world and the consequences God pronounced on Adam, Eve, and Satan. After examining sin’s effects, we considered the promise of a coming Savior in Genesis 3:15.

Because of sin, the world is not what it was meant to be. This reality is vividly portrayed in the story of Cain and Abel. Cain’s murder of Abel was driven by pride, jealousy, anger, and a refusal to repent and to trust in God’s grace.

Below are five reflection questions based on this week’s teaching.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. How does viewing the Bible as one connected story change the way you read individual passages or books of Scripture?

  2. Where are you currently tempted to hide from God instead of bringing your sin into his light?

  3. When faced with failure, do you take responsibility—or shift blame onto others or your circumstances?

  4. How does recognizing the seriousness of God’s judgment on sin deepen your gratitude for his mercy and grace in Christ?

  5. How does knowing that Jesus has already crushed Satan’s head shape how you face suffering, temptation, and fear?
