REFLECTIVE APPLICATIONAL QUESTIONS: ROMANS 7:1—8:17
- In what ways do you still try to earn God’s favor by “being good,” rather than resting in the finished work of Christ?
- What is one specific way the law has helped you see your need for Jesus more clearly?
-
Where do I feel the most significant tension between who I am in Christ and how I sometimes live?
-
What areas of your life still feel marked by condemnation, and how does Romans 8:1 challenge that perspective?
- When doubts about your salvation or worth creep in, where do you turn for reassurance? How can you listen more closely to the Spirit’s voice, affirming, “You are mine”?
Before he died, Christian pastor and writer Timothy Keller said that, if he could start all over in ministry, he would focus much more on spiritual identity. I agree with that. Recognizing who we are in Christ is essential to spiritual growth and well-being.
We like to explain Spiritual Identity using the acronym S. S. A. F. E. – Safe with two S’s.
In Christ, we are: Significant. Secure. Accepted. Forgiven. Empowered.
In our curriculum, Living Grounded: Embracing the Foundational Truths of the Christian Faith, Third Edition (The Journey Ministry, 2022), chapter 5 specifically addresses Spiritual Identity.
