Process of Restoration

Amos 9:14
I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
So, here’s a question—what is the purpose of discipline? For sure it is unpleasant, even painful. From childhood, it’s something we try to avoid. But what is the purpose of discipline?
The book of Amos is focused on justice and righteousness. The nation of Israel had not been doing well at either. Because of their disobedience, God corrected them. This is a pattern throughout the Old Testament—disobedience is followed by discipline. But after discipline, there is repentance and restoration.
God loves us so much that he will not allow us to live far from him in a land of spiritual danger. He will get our attention but always with the purpose of restoring us to himself. He loves us too much to passively watch us continue down a perilous path. His discipline is purposed to bring us back, rebuild our broken-down walls, and plant spiritual vineyards. God loves us enough to restore us.
